Research associate (postdoctoral fellow)

The School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering (Dr M. Stenzel) in cooperation with the School of Electrical Engineering and Technology (A/Prof F. Ladouceur) are looking for a research associate (postdoctoral fellow) to work on nano-material self-assembly for inexpensive flexible colour displays. This position is focused on researching materials and techniques with which to marry the honeycomb structured porous polymers fabricated using a specific self-assembly technique and various display technologies, which may include light-emitting or light filtering technologies.

This is a 2 year fixed term position with the possibility to extend for a further year. Applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent residence.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful applicant will have:

  • a PhD in polymer science or a related area;
  • a good knowledge of polymer synthesis, polymer physics and materials science;
  • publications in high impact journals;
  • good communication skills and an ability to work in interdisciplinary teams;
  • strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work with peers, superiors and with an ability to communicate effectively with members of the wider community;
  • good oral and communication skills;
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a research team;
  • demonstrated ability to interact with industry and to respond to industry requirements;
  • the ability to attract industry funding or competitive grant funding;
  • ability to operate and manage research programs within limited budgets;
  • ability to identify and communicate management implications of research findings to supervisor’s.
