Tailoring the functionality of microstructured polymer optical fibres

Quantum dot and silica nanoparticle doped polymer optical fibers

The project involves the development of a universal doping method by the use of nanoparticles to embed a variety of materials into polymer fibres. This will allow us to both simulataneously tailor the microstructure of the fibre and the material composition to produce fibre characteristics beyond what is possible by using each tailoring option on its own. This will allow us to extend fibre capabilities and produce a variety of novel active fibres.
