Research Interests
 |
Image Compression
- Developed the EBCOT algorithm, adopted by JPEG2000
- Authored JPEG2000 VM3A, which is the basis of
all subsequent verification models
- Originated the canvas coordinate system
- A consistent framework of conventions for
partitioning and alignment of the Wavelet transform
- Imparts many useful features to the JPEG2000
standard, including the ability to efficiently
crop and geometrically manipulate images in
the compressed domain
- Originated the error resilient termination mode
for JPEG2000, and developed the decoding algorithm
- Author of Kakadu, a comprehensive software framework
for JPEG2000 application developers
- Author, with Michael Marcellin, of JPEG2000: image
compression fundamentals, standards and practice,
Kluwer 2002
- Recent activities in volumetric image compression
|
 |
Video Compression
- Highly scalable video compression
- Motion compensated temporal lifting
- Motion modeling and scalable motion signalling
|
 |
Image Processing
- Demosaicing of digital colour images
- Medical image analysis
|
 |
Multimedia Communication
- Major contributor to the evolving JPIP standard
(JPEG2000 Internet Protocol): should become IS 15444-9
- Highly scalable fixed and variable bit-rate video
communication
- Interactive, highly accessible image and video
communication systems
