An overview of microstructured optical fibres will be given by Nathaniel with particular attention on the fabrication of fibre Bragg gratings in them. He will cover the different types of microstructured optical fibres along with their applications. A few types of fibre lasers fabricated from microstructured fibres will be presented. He will also introduce a new project using optical fibres in the oil and gas industry for sensing. He will cover the aims of the project and highlight the section that UNSW will contribute.
